ITHACA, N.Y. – Graduate student
Rachel Rosenberg of the Ithaca College women's lacrosse team and fellow graduate student
Ava Lowell of the women's swimming & diving program earned 2022 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large honors as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.
Both were First Team selections and are one of only 11 student-athletes from District 3, which encompasses New York state. Unlike the most sport specific categories, the Women's At-Large program comprises athletes from 14 different sports: beach volleyball, bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo. To be nominated for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA above 3.30 and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school.
This marks the second-straight year that
Rachel Rosenberg was voted to the All-District team as she has already graduated from Ithaca with her bachelor's degree in television-radio and is currently in pursuit of her MBA in Entertainment & Media Management. Rosenberg has maintained a 3.78 GPA and has continued to prove her acumen both on the field and in the classroom. The defender put together arguably her most complete season to date, racking up IWLCA All-Empire Region First Team, Second Team All-American (USA Magazine), Liberty League First Team, and Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Rosenberg started in all 21 games in the recently wrapped up 2022 season that saw the Bombers make an appearance in the NCAA Third Round where they finished with a 17-4 overall record. She totaled 84 draw controls, 48 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers. Rosenberg also put together a career-best scoring total (10) by netting three goals and seven assists.
Ava Lowell finished her undergraduate studies with a 3.67 GPA as a Physical Therapy major and currently holds a 3.87 graduate school GPA. She put together her best season to-date as she was named the Liberty League Diver of the Year and helped the Bombers win their third-straight Liberty League Championship. She qualified for nationals where she became the second-ever National Champion as she won the 3-meter diving competition with a finals score of 486.45.
Lowell concludes her career with six All-American honors as she also finished third on the 1-meter boards with a finals score of 443.95 at the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championships.
As Academic All-District honorees, both
Ava Lowell and
Rachel Rosenberg will both now garner consideration for the Academic All-America team, which is slated to be released on June 15.
