No. 10 Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Vassar, 19-2

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 10 Ithaca College women's lacrosse team had another powerful performance on Saturday afternoon with their victory over Vassar College at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers resilient offense tallied 19 goals and only allowed two goals with their powerful defense. This win pushes Ithaca to 10-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. Vassar College falls to 3-8 in their season and 1-5 in the Liberty League.
 
Ithaca dominated with 38 shots-on-goal compared to Vassar's 16. Maizy Veitch led the team in scoring with five goals. Megan Motkowski trailed closely behind recording four goals along with Alexa Ritchie and Caroline Wise putting up three apiece. The Bombers' defense prevailed today with 10 turnovers.
 
Within the first 29 seconds, Ithaca got on the scoreboard with Ritchie's first goal of the game. The team continued to dominate the first quarter by putting up another eight goals from Motkowski, Sydney Phillips, Ritchie, Wise, and Veitch.
 
The Bombers continued to capitalize on their offensive opportunities by expanding their shutout lead to 14-0 over the Brewers at halftime. Chloe Nordyke led scoring in the second quarter by putting up two goals for the Bombers. Lexi Held led on the defensive front saving  four shots from the Brewers.
 
After the half, Ithaca quickly put up another two goals by Vietch and Wise. Motowski scored the third goal of the quarter with 5:27 left on the clock.
 
With 2:00 left in the quarter, Vassar finally got on the scoreboard with a goal from freshman Kali Ringler. Another goal from Phillips put her team in front at 18-1 to end the third quarter.
 
Vassar got on the board first in the fourth quarter with a goal from midfielder Maddy Kretten. Both teams were quiet until the last 11 seconds of the game when Veitch scored her fifth goal to make the final score 19-2.
 
Ithaca College returns to its home field at Higgins Stadium next Wednesday, April 13 for a Liberty League matchup against No. 9 William Smith. Opening draw is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
