RESULTS
ITHACA, N.Y. – It was a solid first day for the Ithaca College women's swimming & diving program as they racked up 343 team points to lead the way on Wednesday at the Liberty League Championships. RIT are sitting in second with 327 points and RPI are in third with 297 team points.
It was a one-two finish for the Bombers in the first event of the finals on Wednesday evening with
Erin Kiley taking home top honors in the 500-yard freestyle. She won the event with a season-best time of 5:06.54 and bested
Morgan Hoffman-Smith who recorded a finals time of 5:10.75 for second.
Katie Champagne was able to earn the Bombers team points in the 200-yard IM with her fifth-place finish in the event. She touched the final wall in 2:10.48. The winner of the event came from RIT in Khavy Sangasy who repeated as champion following up on her 2020 performance with a finals time of 2:06.48.
The Bombers continued to impress next in the 50-yard freestyle finals. After having the top time after the morning preliminaries,
Emily VanderSleen paced the field to win the event with a time of 23.94. Just on her heels with a third-place finish was
Jane Pfeufer who finished the race in 23.94.
In the 200-yard medley relay, RPI took home first with a finals time of 1:45.71. The Bombers foursome of
Katie Champagne,
Abigail Ignagni,
Emily VanderSleen, and
Jane Pfeufer teamed for a third place finish and finals time of 1:47.60.
Day two of competition continues tomorrow with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries at 1 p.m. and finals for both at 6 p.m. The day will begin with the 200 freestyle relay, followed by the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay. On the boards will be the women's 1-meter dive.
