ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's and women's swimming & diving programs hosted RPI on Saturday afternoon in Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. The women's program defeated the Engineers by a 187-112 score as the IC men's team suffered a two-point loss, 148-146.
The Bombers women's team won the 200-yard medley relay as Sonia Mlakar,
Abigail Ignagni,
Emily VanderSleen and
Jane Pfeufer defeated the foursome from RPI with a recorded time of 1:49.70. Both the Bombers men and women won their respective 400-yard freestyle relays.
Sonia Mlakar earned her first individual win of the afternoon in the 100-yard backstroke as she defeated Megan Beaulieu from RPI by just under three seconds touching the final wall in 57.65. For the men,
James Collishaw won the 100-yard backstroke by improving upon his season-best time in the event with a 57.65.
Mlakar earned her second win of the afternoon by taking home first-place in the 200-yard backstroke as she had a time of 2:06.30. In the men's event it was a tight race between teammates Matthew Janssen and
Joe Pezzini as they took one-two with times of 2:12.73 and 2:13.63, respectively.
Emily VanderSleen was crowned champion in the 50-yard freestyle as she edged out her teammate
Jane Pfeufer (24.72) with her finals time of 24.40.
Ben Young won the event for the men with a time of 21.59 as he bested Matthew Mitros who finished with a 22.32.
VanderSleen won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.97 with
James Collishaw winning the event for the men touching the final wall with a time of 47.22. Ryan Cooke won the 500-yard freestyle for the Bombers as the first year swam the race in 4:48.67. Another victory was completed for the women's program with Mlakar winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.22.
In diving action,
Karalyn Pawcio won the 3-meter with a season-best score of 297.95 as Connor Gleasman won on the 1-meter board for the men with a finals score of 254.25.
Leah Levin was crowned champion for the women's 1-meter competition as Connor Gleasman took home his second win of the day in the 3-meter with a finals score of 271.00.
The Bombers are back in the pool on Saturday, November 5 when they host SUNY Cortland for a home dual that will begin at 1 p.m.
