NEW ORLEANS – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its regional awards ahead of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in late May. For Ithaca College, assistant coach
Matt Scheffler was named Atlantic Assistant Coach of the Year for the women's team for the third time in his career.

Scheffler, in his 15th year at Ithaca, led the nation's top-ranked pole vault #EventSquad as the Bombers occupied the top two positions on the yearly list. His vaulters took six of the top-7 places at the Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

At the NCAA Championships, junior
Meghan Matheny became the program's second all-time pole vault national champion with a clearance of 3.85 meters and first-year
Sara Altonen placed eighth to second All-America honors.

Matheny joins Katherine Pitman, a three-time national champion, as the only other national title competition at Ithaca College.
Scheffler received the same award in 2016 and 2017, and was named collegiate coach of the year at the National Pole Vault Summit in 2018.
