Women’s Swimming Dominant in Distance Events as Part of Final Day of Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. –
The Ithaca College women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the 10th Annual Bomber Invitational on Sunday and finished second. The Bombers totaled 1257.5 points, which was bested by SUNY Geneseo who won the invite with a total of 1675 points.

In the first race of the day, the 1,650 yard freestyle, Morgan Hoffman-Smith gritted it out for Ithaca and finished third overall with a recorded time of 17:47.41. The Bombers had three more finish within the top-10 with Ava Palfreyman finishing seveneth (18:20.08), Emily Shorb (18:22.78) was eighth and Erin Kiley finished the long distance race in 18:24.90), which was good for ninth.

Abigail Ignagni took home a third-place finish in the 100-yard IM as Colleen Queglia of The College of Saint Rose won the event with a finals time of 59.10. The Bombers had a pair of top-10 finishers in the 100-yard freestyle. Emily VanderSleen produced a fifth-place finish with a time of 54.21 and Jane Pfeufer was ninth in 54.21.

Hoffman-Smith was the best finisher for the Bombers in seventh in the 200-yard backstroke. The graduate student swam a season-best 2:11.31. In the final individual event, Jenna Molnar was eighth (2:30.56) and Abigail Ignagni was right behind her with a ninth-place finish at 2:30.56.

It was a super competitive 400-yard freestyle relay field with close times within the top-5. SUNY Geneseo won the event with a time of 3:34.25 and Katie Champagne, Jane Pfeufer, Morgan Hoffman-Smith and Emily VanderSleen teamed up for the second place finish in 3:34.91.

The Bombers now break for the semester and return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Henry Kumpf Invitational, which is held on the campus of RPI. IC follows that up with a dual at Alfred University on Jan. 22 and divers will compete on Jan. 23 at the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational.
