Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Skidmore Hands Field Hockey 3-0 Loss to Conclude Regular Season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Ithaca College field hockey program wrapped up its regular season with a 3-0 Liberty League loss at Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon. Ithaca will head into the Liberty League Championship as the No. 1 seed and will host Rochester on November 3 with an overall record of 13-4 and 6-1 in league play.

Skidmore took control of the game in the first quarter and set the Bombers with a monumental task to overcome after 15 minutes of play. The Thoroughbreds put the first shot of the game on target, which was saved by Macy Brandwein at the 5:20 mark, and then a minute later, Skidmore drew a corner and scored off the insert to take a 1-0 lead.

Less than four minutes later, Skidmore put home another goal to increase its lead to 2-0 as the Bombers were still unable to record a shot. In the waning seconds of the opening quarter, Skidmore earned another corner. A foul in the circle occurred with no time left on the clock, so another corner was awarded. The Thoroughbreds used that extra opportunity to register their third goal of the quarter.

IC was not able to put a shot on goal until late in the fourth period. Off a corner insert from Jacqueline Mirabile, Grace Ziehnert sent a shot towards frame, but was turned away by Skidmore's Jess Gategens. Immediately off that save, Ziehnert fired another shot but a defensive save kept IC off the board.

More information on the upcoming Liberty League Championship will be posted at a later date.
