OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Ithaca College softball team fell, 1-0, to No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon to end its run in the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championships.

The Bombers end their stellar season with a 35-13 overall record and finished third in the tournament.

After four and one half scoreless innings, Virginia Wesleyan came out in the bottom of the fifth to put up the deciding run.

Julia Sinnett singled through the left side before advancing on a Maria Weddle sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Kiersten Richardson dropped a bloop single into left field, allowing Sinnett to score and put the Marlins up, 1-0.

Ithaca had several runners on base throughout the game, but could not come up with the timely hit to send any home.

In the top of the second inning,
Alex Wright led off with a walk before stealing second to put herself in scoring position.
Nikkey Skuraton then drew a walk, but the final two batters of the inning struck out, leaving both runners stranded.

The Bombers also left a runner on in the top of the third inning.
Annie Cooney bunted to lead off before moving to second on a
Gabby Laccona sacrifice bunt. Similar to the second inning, the final two batters of the inning struck out, leaving Cooney on second.

In the top of the sixth following Virginia Wesleyan's run,
Allie Colleran led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a Wright ground out, but was left stranded with another IC strikeout.

Cooney recorded IC's only hit of the game and went 1-for-2 on the day.

Haley Congdon rounded out her junior season with another complete game, allowing just four hits in six innings of work. She also struck out two Marlins' batters. She finished the season with a 15-4 record in the circle.

The Bombers' four seniors –
Payton Cutting,
Allie Colleran,
Emily Bloom and
Hannah Peters – finish their careers with a 124-49 record. They helped IC back to the World Series for the first time since 2010 and have appeared in three Regionals and two Super Regionals.
