PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 21 Ithaca College softball team is Oklahoma City bound for the 2018 Division III Softball Championships after defeating No. 6 St. John Fisher in the Rochester Super Regional.

After falling in the first game of the day to the Cardinals, 4-0, the Bombers powered back to win the second game, 7-4, to advance to the Championships.
Â
It will be the first time the Bombers are playing in the Championship since 2010 and the 11
th time in program history.

The Bombers got on the board first in the second game of the day, putting up two runs in the top of the second inning.

Hannah Anderson reached base on a dropped third strike to lead off before moving forward on an
Alex Wright sacrifice bunt.
Nikkey Skuraton singled to move Anderson over to third and both runners scored when
Annie Cooney drilled a deep single to center, putting IC up 2-0.

Fisher got a run back in the bottom of the third inning, starting with an Ashley Prince single up the middle. Sammie Torlish then reached on a fielder's choice and Prince advanced to third on a throwing error. Prince scored Fisher's first run of the game on an Emily Trotman fielder's choice play, cutting IC's lead to 2-1.

Ithaca wasted no time in putting more runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning.

Wright led off with a walk before stealing second to put herself in scoring position. Skuraton then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Wright over a base before Cooney came through again, this time with a two-run homer to left field, which pushed IC's advantage to 4-1.

Fisher continued the back-and-forth action in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting up three runs to tie things up.

Emma Savas started the rally with a single to left field before Julia Sortisio singled up the middle. Katie Mazierski followed that up with another single up the middle to load the bases and force an IC pitching change.

Both Savas and Sortisio scored on a Prince double to center field before Torlish followed that up with a double to left, scoring Mazierski and tying the game, 4-4.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Ithaca broke the tie in the top of the sixth inning.

Wright started things off for the Bombers with a double to left field before scoring on a Skuraton double to left center, giving IC a 5-4 advantage.

The Bombers continued the offensive production in the top of the seventh inning.
Gabby Laccona led off with a single to center field before
Abby Shields hit her second homerun of the tournament and third of the year to score both runs and give Ithaca a 7-4 lead.

St. John Fisher came out in the bottom of the seventh inning to load the bases, starting with a Mary Claire Grosvenor double to left field. Marissa Kirker followed that up with a single to short which moved Grosvenor to third before a wild pitch sent Kirker to second.

Sortisio drew a walk to load the bases, but the Bombers forced a pop fly behind second base to get the final out and the win.

Cooney finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run scored while Skuraton went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored.

Haley Congdon earned the win in the circle, pitching three and two-thirds innings while scattering five hits and striking out one.

In the first game of the day, Fisher came out to score in the top of the first inning.

Sortisio led off with a single to third before moving forward on a Mazierski ground out. Sortisio then scored on a Trotman single to left center to take the 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals put up another run in the top of the fourth inning, starting with a Sarah Kubik single through the left side. Grosvenor then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Kubik to second before Jessica Sardina grounded out to first to push the runner to third.

Kirker then drew a walk before stealing second followed by a Sortisio walk to load the bases. A Mazierski single up the middle allowed Kubik to score and give Fisher a 2-0 lead.

After several quick innings, Fisher once again struck in the top of the sixth inning as Kubik drilled a lead-off homerun to center field, giving the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Skuraton drew a walk to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the Bombers were unable to score, leaving Skuraton stranded.

The Cardinals added one final run in the top of the seventh. Mazierski drilled a deep triple to center field before scoring on a Prince sacrifice fly out to left field.

Junior
Haley Congdon was named Most Outstanding Pitcher of the tournament while sophomore designated player
Abby Shields Earned Most Outstanding Performer for the second weekend in a row.
Congdon started in two of the Bombers' games this weekend and appeared in all three while Shields hit two homeruns and accounted for four RBI.
