Softball Downs RIT on Senior Day

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College softball team topped RIT in its last regular-season Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon at Kostrinsky Field.

With the two wins, the Bombers are now 25-8 overall this season with a mark of 11-3 in Liberty League play.

Ithaca held off a late RIT surge in game one of the doubleheader to win, 8-4. Despite enduring a 30 minute rain delay in the third inning of game two, IC came out on top again with a 6-2 win.

Following the games, the Bombers honored their four seniors – Emily Bloom, Allie Colleran, Payton Cutting and Hannah Peters.

Game 1 | IC 8, RIT 4

Ithaca started off strong in the first of two games, scoring four runs in the first inning.

Senior Allie Colleran led off with a single up the middle before stealing second to put herself in scoring position. Gabby Laccona followed that up with a single to centerfield which moved Colleran to third to put runners on the corners. Laccona then stole second for IC's second stolen base of the game in as many tries.

Vanessa Brown drove in both Colleran and Laccona with a single to right field before stealing second.

Alex Wright followed that up with a walk before Hannah Anderson sent an RBI single to center, bringing in Brown. Wright went on to score the final run of the inning after being driven in by Ellie Murray.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Bombers put up three more runs. Laccona singled down the left field line to get things going before stealing second, her second steal of the day.

Brown followed that up with a single to shortstop before Wright drove in Laccona with a single to left field, pushing IC's edge to 5-0.

Anderson loaded the bases with a single before Abby Shields ripped a double left field, bringing in Brown and Wright to give the Bombers a 7-0 lead.

RIT answered back in the top of the third with two runs, starting with a Samm Carroll walk. Danielle Hotz followed with a single to right center, which allowed Carroll to advance to third base.

Both Carroll and Hotz scored on an Alexandria Lunderman single up the middle to cut into IC's lead, 7-2. Raquel Estrada drew a walk on the next play, but both runners were left stranded for the Tigers.

Ithaca scored its final run in the next inning, the bottom of the third.

Colleran drilled a double to centerfield to put herself in scoring position before scoring on a Brown single up the middle to give the Bombers an 8-2 advantage.

After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, RIT put together a two-out rally in the top of the fifth, which produced two more runs.

The bases loaded quickly after three batters were hit by pitches in a row. Lunderman and Estrada then scored on an Olivia Doret single to centerfield, cutting IC's lead to 8-4.

Ithaca did not allow any RIT hits through the remainder of the game, resulting in the win.
