Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 19 Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past St. Lawrence 16-6

CANTON, N.Y. – The 19th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team hit the road for the first time in 2017 on Sunday when it traveled to North Country to face St. Lawrence in a non-conference tilt. Two separate five-goal runs by the Bombers proved to be the difference in the contest, as the IC raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 16-6 victory over the Saints. The win improves Ithaca's record to 2-0 on the young season.

Six Ithaca players got in on the goal scoring act, which was highlighted by another monster performance by fifth-year senior Ally Runyon. The talented attacker posted a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist. With the big day on the stat sheet, Runyon passed Katie Hurley '11 for eighth on the program's all-time point list with 180 for her career, while she moved within one goal of Kim Medla '08 for fifth on the program's all-time goal scoring list (153).

Seniors Morgan Racicot and Olivia Oppenheim each registered a pair of goals, while sophomore Allison Panara registered five total on points on two goals and three assists. Freshman Bailey Herr collected three points, scoring twice and adding one helper, while senior Gaby Berne notched a pair of points on a goal and assist.

Senior Emily Ross picked up her first win of the season, making five saves in the opening 30 minutes of play. Junior Kimberly Presuto relieved Ross at halftime, finishing with three saves in the second half.

The Bombers got off to a fast start with two goals in the opening five minutes of play. Racicot fired home the first goal of the game 2:13 into the game, while Berne finished off an excellent feed from Panara to double the advantage with 25:16 left in the half.

After St. Lawrence's Greta Massey and Ithaca's Runyon traded goals over a 1:11 span, the Saints followed with a pair of goals to pull even with 17:21 remaining. The home side scored two goals over a 2:28 span on tallies from Ashley Norris and Kara Hurley.

Ithaca took control of the contest with a five-goal run, scoring seven of the final eight goals total in the half to take a 10-4 lead to the halftime break. Racicot reestablished IC's lead for good at the 15:00 mark with her second goal of the game.

Herr made it 5-3 with her first of the game, while Ithaca was working with an extra player with 12:54 left in the half. Runyon finished off the five-goal streak with three straight tallies over a 3:25 span. After the Saints stopped the streak with a player-up goal of their own, Panara and Runyon ensured the momentum was firmly on the side of the Bombers heading into the break. Panara fired home her first of the game with 3:22 left in the half, while Runyon pumped in her fifth of the game with just 17-seconds left.

Oppenheim widened the lead to 11-4 just 2:43 into the second half with an unassisted marker, but St. Lawrence drew slightly closer when Kiera Taussig scored back-to-back goals on consecutive possessions. However, that was as close as the Saints would get in the contest. The Bombers offense finished off the scoring with five straight goals, while the IC defense shutout the Saints over the final 26:10 of play.

Runyon scored a pair in the second session, while Herr, Panara and Oppenheim each added their second of the game down the stretch.

Defensively, the Bombers forced nine caused turnovers. Junior Molly Long swiped two balls, while freshman Becky Mehorter, sophomore Reid Simoncini, and junior Elizabeth Sauer each added a caused turnover.

Ithaca returns to action on Wednesday, March 8, when it begins Empire 8 play against Hartwick College. Start time for the home contest at Higgins Stadium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
