CLERMONT, Fla. – The Ithaca College softball team continued play at Legends Way Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla. on Thursday as the Bombers defeated SUNY Geneseo before falling to Anderson. With the split, Ithaca moves to 6-4 overall.
Ithaca 6, Geneseo 2The Bombers jumped all over the Knights' starting pitcher in the top of the first after clubbing three hits for four runs.
Allie Colleran got things going for Ithaca with a lead-off walk and would eventually come around to score after
Casey Gavin drove her home with an RBI-single. The next hitter,
Alex Wright, boomed a two-run triple over the centerfielder's head to plate both
Nikkey Skuraton who had walked earlier in the inning and Gavin. Ithaca would push its final run of the inning across when
Hannah Peters grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Wright to scurry home to give the Bombers a 4-0 lead.
After giving a run back in the bottom of the first, the Bombers would push their advantage to five runs after scoring twice in the top of the second on one hit, three walks and one hit batter to hold a 6-1 edge.
Trailing by five runs, the Knights would score again in the third after an RBI-single up the middle, but that would be their last run of the contest as Ithaca allowed only four more base runners over the final three-plus innings.
Laura Quicker earned her third win of the season after pitching 7.0 innings of work and allowing two runs on six hits to go along with a season-high eight strikeouts.
Colleran was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases while Wright picked up one hit in two at-bats with three RBI and a run scored.
Anderson 3, Ithaca 2The Ravens loaded the bases in the top of the first after starting the game with a walk followed by back-to-back singles. Anderson would take a 1-0 lead after a fielder's choice advanced the runner at third to make it 1-0 before the Bombers would escape the threat.
Anderson would add to its lead in the third inning with a two-run home run to take a 3-0 lead before the Bombers would get on the board in the bottom of the frame when Colleran drove in
Hannah Anderson who had walked and moved around the bases following a single by
Jessie Fleck to make it 3-1, Ravens.
After a scoreless top of the fourth, the Bombers would cut the deficit to one run as
Ellie Murray drove in Wright to make it 3-2, but that was as close as Ithaca would get as the Bombers were unable to plate the tying run in the sixth and seventh innings.
Allison Macari was tagged with the loss after throwing five innings and giving up three runs on six hits. Congdon pitched two scoreless innings of relief and scattered just one hit.
Ithaca will return to the diamond at 9 a.m. on Friday with a twin-billing against RPI at the Legends Way Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla.
