ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team celebrated the accomplishments of its senior class with a 168.5-131.5 win over Union College on Saturday afternoon inside the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion. Prior to the meet, Ithaca honored its four seniors including
Lainey Cohen,
Lauren Cox,
Michelle Heidgerken and
Megan Zart.
The Bombers didn't waste any time putting Union in their rearview mirror as
Grace Ayer,
Samantha Reilly, Cox and Zart teamed up for a win in the 200 medley relay after outpacing the field of seven quartets with a time of 1:51.48.
Ithaca would take the top two spots in the 200 free when
Erin Hackett and
Nilza Costa finished first and second, respectively. Hackett touched the wall in 2:00.54 while Costa finished right behind her in 2:00.65.
Ayer would follow up her performance earlier in the relay with a first place finish in the 100 backstroke after completing the event in 59:69. The Bombers continued to seperate themselves from the competition in the 100 breaststroke after sweeping the top three spots as Reilly,
Miria Teneza and
Cori Ghidotti finished in consecutive order.
Casey Koenig won the 200 fly by more than two seconds (2:17.31) and would go on to claim first in the 200 breaststroke while Cox and Zart finished second and third in the 50 free.
Ithaca finished 1-2-3 in the 500 free with Costa earning the top spot after touching the wall in 5:20.42.
Brenna Dowd finished in second place and
Cat Tompkins earned a third place nod.
In the 1-meter dive,
Lindsey Suddaby earned her first win of the season after compiling 276.25 points while teammate
Katie Helly finished in third place with 250.20 points. Helly claimed her second to-three finish of the meet in the 3-meter dive after earning 267.85 points and second place.
The Bombers will take part in one last meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 13 when they host the Ithaca Invitational before hosting 15 other teams in the 2016 UNYSCSA/Empire 8 Championship in the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion.
