ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's swimming and diving team earned 14 first place finishes out of 16 events as the Bombers defeated Alfred University, 230-65, on Saturday inside the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion.
Lauren Cox,
Grace Ayer,
Erin Hackett and
Lainey Cohen teamed up to take first in the 200 medley relay, beating out five other quartets with a time of 1:55.44. The Bombers would continue to glide through the water, taking first place in both the 1000 free and the 100 backstroke as
Brenna Dowd and
Samantha Reilly combined to pick up 18 points for Ithaca.
Ayer, the reigning Empire 8 Women's Swimmer of the Week, cruised past the field in the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall five seconds ahead of the second place finisher with a time of 1:08.95 while
Nilza Costa and
Zoe Vadney finished first and second in the 200 fly to net Ithaca 13 more points.
Megan Zart sprinted to a top finish in the 50 free with a mark of 25.80 and Reilly earned her second individual victory of the meet after winning the 200 back.
Ithaca would capture two more top-three finishes in the 200 breaststroke when
Casey Koenig and
Cori Ghidotti finished first and second, respectively, before the Bombers took the top three spots in the 500 free as
Cat Tompkins finished first followed by Dowd and
Miranda Wingfield.
Cassie Papaleo got in on the action with a win in the 100 butterfly and Koenig wrapped up the individual competitions with a top finish in the 400 IM after touching the wall in 4:57.56.
Ithaca would record its second relay win of the meet after Hackett, Zart, Ayer and
Jaclyn Pecze combined to win the 200 free relay with a mark of 1:42.87.
The Bombers looked strong in the diving portion of the meet as well, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Ithaca captured five of the top six spots in the 1-meter dive with
Anna Belson earning the top overall spot with 267.95 points. Belson would go on to claim the title in the 3-meter event as well after compiling 302.80 points in all.
Ithaca will return to action on Sunday when it hosts the Dick Comanzo Diving Invite in the A&E Center Aquatics Pavilion.
