Ithaca Women’s Lacrosse Edged by #10 Stevens, 11-10

Hoboken, N.J. – Sophomore Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) turned away a career-high 18 saves as the Ithaca women's lacrosse team (5-3, 3-1 Empire 8) battled #10 Stevens Institute of Technology (8-2, 3-0 Empire 8), but dropped an 11-10 conference decision on Saturday afternoon.

Worthman's 18 saves are the most by a Bomber since Angela Marathakis made 18 against Amherst in the 2003 NCAA playoffs.

A six-goal second half helped the Bombers erase a 8-4 halftime deficit as the Bombers scored six of the game's final seven goals to bring the game within one, 11-10, with 1:46 lingering on the clock. The Ducks won the final draw control and maintained possession of the ball until time expired for their third straight win.

Junior Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) netted a game-best four scores, while senior Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) added three. Senior Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamton) tallied a pair of goals, while sophomore Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) scored one and dished out a game- and career-best three assists.

DeCirce and junior Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) each won three draws for the Bombers, while five players forced one turnover each.

Stevens opened all scoring at 27:41 before Rivas fed Hurley to knot the game at 1-1 just four minutes later. The Ducks then scored four straight goals before Rivas went unassisted at 9:22. Stevens answered with one of their own for a 6-2 lead, but Ithaca netted two straight on goals from Borisenok and DeCirce to come within two. At 1:08 Stevens opened a four-goal stretch that bridged the halves for a commanding 10-4 advantage with 23:42 of play remaining.

The tandem of Borisenok and Hurley scored four consecutive Ithaca goals to make it a 10-8 game at 15:57. After more than 12 scoreless minutes, the Ducks scored on a free position to break the silence. Borisenok brought the game to 11-9 at 2:28 before DeCirce finalized all scoring at 1:46 on a free position goal for an 11-10 score.

The Ducks outshot Ithaca, 41-21, scooped up 16 ground balls to the Bombers' 11 and won 13 of 23 draw controls as the host squad snapped Ithaca's three-game streak.

The Bombers next travel to Hartwick for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, April 10.
