Women’s Lacrosse Team Drops 13-7 Decision to #2 Hamilton

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca women's lacrosse team (6-4) dropped a 13-7 decision to second-ranked Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

Hamilton, who won its sixth straight contest, opened the game on a 6-1 run before Ithaca netted two of the final three goals of the half to trail 7-3 at the break.

The Continentals claimed the first of the second stint before the Bombers rattled off two straight to make it an 8-5 game. But Hamilton scored five straight goals over the course of 15 minutes to take a 13-5 lead with 4:43 lingering in the game. The Bombers found the back of the net twice before time expired for a 13-7 final.

Senior Ali DeCirce (Binghamton/Binghamton), junior Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) and sophomore Michelle Avery (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) each scored two goals for the Bombes, while senior Rachel Maley (Newtown/Sandy Hook, Conn.) added one.

Junior Siobhan Sullivan (Franklin/Franklin, Mass.) led the team with four draws and four ground balls. Senior Abby Peterson (Mount Mansfield Union/Underhill, Vt.) had a team-best two caused turnovers with three ground balls, while sophomores Nikki Dahl (The Wellington School/Columbus, Ohio) and Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) also added three ground balls.

Worthman suffered the loss in goal having made five stops for the Bombers.

With a 4-0 deficit in place, Borisenok opened scoring for the Bombers at 19:12 of the first frame. Hamilton answered with two straight before DeCirce netted her first of the game on an assist from sophomore Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow). The Continentals again responded, though it was Avery's first of the game that closed out the first half in Hamilton's favor, 7-3.

Hamilton extended its lead to 8-3 with a score at 25:46 before the Bombers brought the game within three. Borisenok went unassisted at 24:54, just 15 seconds prior to Avery's free position goal.

The Continentals ceased the chance at a Bomber comeback with five consecutive scores before Maley brought the game to 13-6 at the 5:20 mark. DeCirce finalized all scoring with the game's final goal with 53 seconds left to play.

Ithaca won 15 draw controls to the Continentals' seven, but Hamilton outshot the Bombers 29-21 and held a 29-25 advantage in ground balls.

The Bombers will next travel to Alfred for a noon game on Saturday, April 16.
