Seven-Goal Second Half Leads Bombers by Brockport, 10-6, in Season Opener

West Palm Beach, Fla. – The Ithaca women's lacrosse team (1-0) used a seven-goal second stint to propel to a 10-6 season-opening victory over Brockport (0-1) in the City Place division of Spring Fling played in Florida. The Bombers will face Rensselaer on Wednesday, March 16 in the division championship at 4 p.m.

Ithaca got on the board eight minutes in to action and held a 1-0 edge until Brockport knotted the contest at 3:27. The Bombers responded with a pair of scores in the final 1:15 of the first frame to take a 3-1 lead into intermission.

The Bombers notched the first goal of the second stint at 28:24 but Brockport responded to keep within two just four minutes later. The squads went goal-for-goal over the next 17 minutes of action as the Bombers maintained the advantage, 8-6, after a Golden Eagle goal at 6:47.

Ithaca iced the game with a pair of scores at 5:44 and 4:41. Sophomore Kim Armbruster (Montville/Boonton, N.J.) used a feed from sophomore Michelle Avery (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) to go ahead 9-6 before sophomore Tracy Rivas (East Meadow/East Meadow) finalized all scoring at 10-6 with an unassisted goal.

Armbruster tallied a game-high three goals, on just five shots, and collected a game-best four ground balls. She also caused a game-high three turnovers.

DeCirce and senior Katie Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) each recorded a pair of scores and dished out an assist for the Bombers. Rivas, Avery and junior Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) all scored once for Ithaca. Borisenok and senior Emily Finn (Bishop-Brady/Concord, N.H.) both forced a duo of turnovers.

Sophomore Jess Worthman (Hauppauge/Commack) recorded 14 saves in goal for the Bombers for the win.

Ithaca edged Brockport, 20-17, in ground balls, though Brockport outshot the Bombers, 27-22. Ithaca converted on 18 of 20 clear attempts.
