ITHACA, N.Y.— The women's lacrosse team (5-5, 2-3) outscored visiting Nazareth (7-4, 3-2 Empire 8) 9-2 in the second half to post a 14-7 win Saturday. The win, which snapped a three-game Bomber losing streak, marked Ithaca's highest goal total and highest margin of victory in 15 all-time meetings with the Golden Flyers (who have won four straight Empire 8 regular-season titles).
Sophomore Catherine Hurley (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls) and junior Kylie McClure (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) both scored five goals and combined for eight of the team's nine's second-half scores.
Nazareth scored 55 second into the second half for the sixth and final lead change of the game. Hurley scored three straight goals in a 2:36 span and McClure followed with three consecutive goals as the Bombers took control.
Junior Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa) made seven saves and picked up three ground balls.
Junior Lauren Fitzgerald (William H. Hall/West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Nicole Borisenok (Albany Academy for Girls/Watervliet) scored two goals apiece and both picked up a team-leading four ground balls. Fitzgerald also assisted on a Bomber goal. Fitzgerald and Kassie Garfield (The Wheeler School/Cuttyhunk Island, Mass.) led Ithaca with two caused turnovers apiece.
Hurley, who led Ithaca with five draw controls, took over the team's scoring lead by raising her season total to 42 points. Her two-year career total stands at 64. McClure's 36 points this spring give her 88 in her career, leaving her 12 away from becoming the program's 28th 100-point scorer.
Ithaca hosts sixth-ranked Hamilton Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The Continentals are the defending national champions.
