Women's Swimmng & Diving Edges Union

Sheila Rhoades won three events Saturday at Union.

Schenectady, N.Y. – The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team defeated Union 129-114 to improve to 11-3 on the season, concluding their dual meet season with the most victories in six years and matching the school record for wins in a season.

The quartet of freshman Missy Keesler (Union-Endicott/Endicott), senior Lauren Botterbusch (Dallastown/York, Pa.), freshman Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico), and sophomore Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:07.30 to start the afternoon.

Rhoades won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.08. Freshman Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Springs, Md.) won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:52.08 and sophomore Maddie Kennedy (Head Royce/Alameda, Calif.) won the 200 free (2:01.24) as the Bombers took the meet's first four events. Murphy's time in the 1,000 free is the sixth-fastest in Ithaca history.

Rhoades also won the 100 free with a time of 54.14. Keesler placed second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.11 and Murphy won the 500 free with a time of 5:22.56. Botterbusch won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:28.70 to earn her second win of the day.

Freshman Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) and junior Naomi Mark (Dansville/Dansville) were the Bombers top divers. Costello won the 1-meter event with 207.82 points and Mark won the 3-meter event with 207.82 points.

The quartet of Maddie Kennedy, Kelly Murphy, Cali DeSanto, and sophomore Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) placed second in the 400 freestyle relay to ensure to Bombers victory in the meet's final event.

The Bombers return to the pool Feb. 18 for the New York State and Empire 8 Championships in Syracuse.
