Two Medals For Women's Crew at ECAC National Regatta; Bombers Win Women's Team Points Title

The novice 8 won the bronze medal
Worcester, Mass. - The women's crew competed this weekend at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta. The Bombers qualified for the grand final in four events and earned medals in two events, with the second varsity 8 and the novice 8 each earning the bronze medal. The Bombers also won the women's team points trophy, finishing six points ahead of Williams. The Bombers finished second in the combined men's & women's points standings.
 
The varsity 8 easily advanced from a heat Saturday evening and then finished third in Sunday morning’s semifinal race to earn a spot in the grand final. In the final, the Bombers defeated (7:02.1) defeated St. Lawrence (7:03.9) and New Hampshire (7:06.3) to earn a fourth-place finish.
 
The second varsity 8 placed second in a morning heat to earn a spot in the grand final. The Bombers placed third in the grand final, winning a medal in the second varsity 8 for the sixth time in eight years at the ECAC Regatta. Ithaca (7:35.8) was edged at the line by Trinity (7:34.2) for second place, but Ithaca defeated Smith, Holy Cross and Vermont to secure a medal.
 
The third varsity 8 also easily advanced from a heat Sunday morning to advance to the grand final in the afternoon. In the final, the Bombers finished behind two boats from Williams and one from Division I Holy Cross to finish fourth. Ithaca defeated fifth-place Tufts and sixth-place Wellesley by open water.
 
The novice 8 also earned a medal Sunday, placing third in the grand final. The Bombers beat Holy Cross, Smith and Mount Holyoke to earn a spot on the medal dock.
 
Ithaca now awaits word on a possible bid to the NCAA Championships. The field will be announced later this week. The NCAA Championships will be held May 30-31 in Sacramento, Calif. Ithaca won the national title in 2004 and 2005.
 
The varsity 8 was made up of senior coxswain Stephanie McKay (Langley/Great Falls, Va.), junior stroke Kelsey Schaeffer (Ithaca/Ithaca), junior seventh seat Danielle Llopiz (Mast Academy/Miami, Fla.), junior sixth seat Katie O’Driscoll (Quincy/Cohasset, Mass.), freshman fifth seat Lauren LaPointe (Lowell/Lowell, Mass.), junior fourth seat Alex Chesney (Hancock Central/Hancock, Mich.), freshman third seat Amy Gefell (Greece Arcadia/Rochester), senior second seat Kristin Morris (Bow/Bow, N.H.) and senior bow Candace Eastman (Oneonta/Oneonta).
 
The second varsity 8 was made up senior coxswain Nicole Valentino (Academy of the Holy Angels/Wood Ridge, N.J.), junior stroke Alden Hall (Stratford Academy/Macon, Ga.), sophomore seventh seat Julie Potter (Arlington/Poughkeepsie), senior sixth seat Kady Wysocki (Greenport/Orient), sophomore fifth seat Kathryn Irwin (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.), sophomore fourth seat Stephanie Levesque (St. Paul Catholic/Bristol, Conn.), junior third seat Diana Glicini (Dallas/Dallas, Pa.), sophomore second seat Erica Gordon (Irvington/Irvington), and sophomore bow Aliyah Emas (Northeast/Philadelphia, Pa.).
 
The third varsity 8 was made up of sophomore coxswain Kaitlin Ahl (Shaker/Latham), junior stroke Sarah Veninsky (Marathon/Richford), junior seventh seat Anthea Barnett (John S. Davidson Fine Arts/Augusta, Ga.), senior sixth seat Sara Cleary (Upper Dublin/Ambler, Pa.), fifth seat Lara Hoover (Ithaca/Ithaca), sophomore fourth seat Erica Gordon (Irvington/Irvington), sophomore third seat Katherine Irwin, junior second seat Maggie Fisk (Gallia Academy/Rio Grande, Ohio) and sophomore first seat Vivian Fu (Washington Irving/Brooklyn).
 
The novice 8 was an all-freshman boat made up of coxswain Meghan McGrattan (Dryden/Dryden), stroke Kerin Murphy (Nashoba/Lancaster, Mass.), seventh seat Becky Webster, sixth seat Marissa Speno (Clinton Senior/Clinton), fifth seat Lisa Russell (Lyme-Old Lyme/Old Lyme, Conn.), fourth seat Victoria Samborski (Frontier/Hamburg), third seat Jine Andreozzi (Shaker/Loudonville), second seat Kristi Helm (Ewing/Ewing, N.J.) and bow Jacqueline Harpham (Downington West/Downington, Pa.).
