Field Hockey Defeated by Springfield, 4-2, in Home Opener

ITHACA, N.Y.-- Ithaca (0-2) was defeated by # 15 Springfield (4-0), 4-2, in their home opener on Saturday. Freshmen, Meg Malone (Rice Memorial/South Burlington, Vt.) and Mia Muzio (Rockport/Rockport, Mass.), scored the first two goals of the collegiate career.
 
Both goals for the Bombers came in the second half of the game. The first goal was scored by Muzio with an assist by sophomore Annie Onzik (Bishop O’Reilly/Shavertown, Pa.). The second goal was unassisted by Malone.
 
Sophomore goalie, Chelsea Welch (Scotia-Glenville/Scotia), had 18 saves for the Bombers in the first half. Sophomore goalie Courtney Dowell (Massapequa/Massapequa), played all 35 minutes of the second half, and recorded nine saves.
 
The Bombers’ next game is at Brockport on Wednesday, September 12.
