Kayla Gromen (Hempfield/Lancaster, Pa.) of the Ithaca College volleyball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October, 4, 2015 after helping the Bombers extend their winning streak to 14 games with wins over Fredonia, Canton and Hilbert at the Fredonia Invitational.
Gromen , who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, combined to post 99 assists to go along with 19 digs, nine kills, three blocks and two aces over 11 sets.
Against Fredonia, the sophomore setter posted 25 assists before dishing out 49 helpers in a five-set win over Canton. The Lancaster, Pa. native finished the tournament with 25 more assists in a win over Hilbert.
Gromen currently leads the Empire 8 in assists with 693 and assists per game at 9.9.
Volleyball returns to the court at 6 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts Cortland in Ben Light Gymnasium. The contest will feature Ithaca’s #ShedTheRed campaign to benefit the Ithaca Rescue Mission. Anyone donating an article of red clothing will receive a blue bombers t-shirt while supplies last.
