Women's T&F Sits Second After First Day of NYSCTC Outdoor Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's track & field team earned nine individual and one relay all-conference finish during day one of the New York State Collegiate Track Conference outdoor championships Friday at St. John Fisher. Ithaca has 10 advancing to Saturday's finals. Through seven events, including the heptathlon, Ithaca sits second with 51 points.
 
Ithaca earned 15 points in the pole vault with sophomore Alex Rechen winning the event with an ECAC-good 3.47-meter clear and senior Shannon Meehan placing fourth with a height of 3.17 meters.
 
The Bombers also had two score in the long jump, hammer and javelin. Junior Emilia Scheemaker placed seventh and classmate Christine Benway eighth in the long with ECAC-qualifying marks of 5.37 and 5.30 meters, respectively. Senior Elaine Abdulky placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.92 meters to meet the ECAC standard. Junior Kristina Stockburger finished sixth with a distance of 43.48 meters. Sophomore Kristen Pompey, who placed second in the heptathlon on Monday, finished fifth in the javelin and freshman Francesca Boylan was seventh with marks of 33.23 and 30.13 meters.
 
Junior Meghan Cass placed eighth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:27.54.
 
Ithaca's 4x800 relay of freshmen Emily Cranmer and Katrina Clark and sophomores Eliza Dewart and Rachel Doane raced to a third-place, ECAC-qualifying finish of 9:42.80.
 
Junior Harmony Graves and sophomores Sarah Werner and Lizzi Dowling are advancing to the 100 dash finals Saturday. Graves and Dewart qualified for the 200 finals and sophomore Christine Kelly and Dewart will race in the 400 finals.
 
Ithaca is sending three to the finals in the hurdle events. Benway will compete in the 100 hurdles and junior Leigh Martino and freshman Julia Jones will race in the 400 hurdle finals.
 
The Bombers will conclude state competition Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
