ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's tennis team concluded its regular-season schedule with an 8-1 victory over Connecticut College at Glazer Arena on Sunday morning. Ithaca won two of three doubles matches, then won all six singles matches. Ithaca is 13-6 overall and Connecticut College is 3-13.
Haley Kusak and
Cristina Nunez led the top of the lineup for Ithaca. The duo won 8-0 at first singles, and each won in straight sets in singles play. Nunez won 6-1, 6-1 at first singles and Kusak won 6-4, 7-5 at second singles.
Allison Vizgaitis and
Alyssa Steinweis won 8-6 at second doubles and then posted singles victories. Vizgaitis came back to win her fourth singles match in three sets by scores of 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. Steinweis won at fifth singles 6-4, 6-2.
The other singles victories were earned by
Carly Siegel and
Kelly Fishback.
Ithaca has earned automatic qualification to the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships by virtue of its Empire 8 title in the fall. The tournament field will be announced via press release from the NCAA on May 5 at 7 p.m. Information on opponent and venue will be available at that time. Opening-round matches will take place May 9-11.
