Biography
2013-14: Nunez capped her stellar career by receiving the Iris Carnell Senior Athlete of the Year Award, named after a former Ithaca coach and administrator who was the first female inductee into the Ithaca Athletic Hall of Fame. Nunez finished her time at Ithaca as the all-time leader in singles, doubles and overall victories. She has a career record of 80-17 in singles, 66-28 in doubles and an overall record of 146-45. She is a three-time selection as Empire 8 Player of the Year, eight-time all-conference First Team (four singles, four doubles) and three-time MVP of the Empire 8 Championship (2009, 2010, 2012). During the 2013-14 season, Nunez earned first-team Empire 8 honors in both singles and doubles play, something that she achieved in all four of her varsity seasons. Nunez was 15-6 overall in singles play. In doubles, Nunez posted an 11-7 overall record. She has been individually ranked in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and was an ITA national tournament qualifier in 2013. Nunez has been an Empire 8 President's List Honoree with a 3.75 grade-point average.
2012-13: Nunez was named Empire 8 Player of the Year for the third time and also was named Most Valuable Player at the Empire 8 Championships as Ithaca claimed its eighth consecutive title. With a victory in the E8 final, she earned her 60th career victory and tied the school record for singles wins. She went on to take the career lead in that category after completing her year with an 18-2 overall singles record. She earned all-conference first-team honors in both singles and doubles. Nunez posted a 15-6 doubles record for an overall mark of 33-8.
2011-12: Nunez participated in an external study program in Los Angeles and didn't participate in tennis.
2010-11: Nunez was the Empire 8 Player of the Year for the second year in a row and earned first-team all-conference honors in both singles and doubles. Nunez won the first singles championship at the New York State Women's Tennis Division III Championships with a 6-3, 6-1 win over the tournament's top seed. Nunez posted a 22-5 record in singles play and was 20-8 in doubles for an overall record of 42-13.
2009-10: Nunez had a record-setting freshman season with a 26-4 singles record and 21-7 doubles record. She was Empire 8 Player of the Year, Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player and a First Team all-conference selection in both singles and doubles. Nunez set Ithaca's single-season records in singles, doubles and overall victories. She was a three-time honoree as Empire 8 Player of the Week. Nunez finished the year ranked 44th nationally among singles players and 14th in singles in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the highest ranking ever by an Ithaca player. | 2009-10 Statistics
High School: A 2009 graduate of Morris Hills High School, Cristina played first singles for four years on the varsity tennis team for coach William Nieman. She earned first team all-state honors as a senior and third-team all-state across all classifications of school sizes. Nunez was a team captain in her junior and senior years and also lettered for one season in track & field.
Personal: A sport management major, Cristina is the daughter of Bob and Ruth Nunez. Her sister Melissa is a 2011 graduate of Ithaca College and ranks in the top-10 in women's tennis singles, doubles and overall victories.
