GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's tennis team returned to dual-match action Thursday afternoon at William Smith and dropped a 7-2 contest to the Herons at the Hobart and William Smith Tennis Center. Ithaca fell to 12-6 overall this season and William Smith, ranked 17th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, improved to 13-4.

Ithaca competed with an adjusted lineup as injuries and academic opportunities allowed some players to move up in competition, and the Bombers kept many matches very competitive against one of the better teams in New York. Ithaca got its first victory at second doubles, where Carly Siegel and Haley Kusak posted a 9-7 win. It was the fifth time all season that duo has played together and they improved to 3-2 as a pairing in doubles.

Kusak also went on to a victory at first singles, with a straight-sets win over William Smith's Sydney Arsenault. Kusak won by scores of 6-0, 7-5. Kusak now has 15-6 overall record in singles in her freshman campaign. She leads the team in singles wins.

Ithaca returns to the courts Sunday at home against Connecticut College at 10 a.m. It is the final dual match of the regular season, before Ithaca finds out its location and opponent in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. The tennis selections will be announced May 4.
