Ithaca Men's Lacrosse Team Upends Elmira, 21-5, for Fifth Straight Win

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The 11th-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team (6-1, 1-0 Empire 8) upended host Elmira (0-5, 0-1 Empire 8), 21-5, Saturday afternoon for its fifth straight victory. With a 6-2 edge at the half, Ithaca posted 13 third-period goals en route to its largest margin of victory since defeating the Soaring Eagles, 22-2, on April 24, 2013.

Ithaca held a 60-29 gap in shots, a 22-10 advantage in ground balls and won 19-of-27 faceoffs. Elmira had 15 turnovers to a season-low eight by the Bombers.

The teams each exchanged a pair of goals in the first period before Ithaca rattled off 12 straight into the third period for a 14-2 gap. Elmira tallied at 7:12, but Ithaca closed out the third with a 19-3 margin. The Soaring Eagles scored the first two of the fourth. The Bombers answered with two more scores for a 21-5 final.

Senior Pat Slawta erupted for a career-best eight-point performance on game-highs of four goals and four assists. Freshman John Januszkiewicz netted four and dished out one assist and junior James Manilla had four assists to go with a pair of scores. Senior Jake Long contributed one goal and two assists and sophomore Michael Walker recorded a hat trick for the Bombers. Seniors Brandon Henne and Andrew Kristy had two goals and two assists, respectively. Junior Jimmy Ryan, senior Ryan Burns and freshmen Grant Osadchey, Sean Ferrito and Justin Bird scored one goal each.

Henne and junior Matt Greenblatt won seven faceoffs each. Osadchey and junior Steve Danylyshyn both went 2-for-2, while freshman Forrest Rall was 1-for-1. Sophomore Eli Gobrecht had a pair of caused turnovers. Six Bombers collected two ground balls apiece.

Sophomore Scott Sidnam made six stops in goal during the first three quarters. Rookies Jack Deragon and Justin Isaacs split time in the fourth. Deragon made one stop.

The Bombers travel to St. John Fisher for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 26.
