ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team finished second in the standings after four days of competition at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships and Empire 8 Championships meets. Ithaca finished with a total of 1,325.50 points, trailing only Stevens Institute of Technology's total of 1,412 points.
Two Bombers were honored at the end of competition, as junior
Matt Morrison was named Diver of the Meet and diving coach
Mike Wantuck earned Diving Coach of the Year honors. This marks the second-straight year that Morrison and Wantuck have earned their respective awards, and the third-straight year an Ithaca diver has been named Diver of the Meet.
Ithaca placed two swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle A Final, as junior
Peter Knight and sophomore
Adam Zelehowsky finished in the top-five. Knight took second overall, setting a new program record and meeting NCAA B qualifying standards with a time of 45.47. A. Zelehowsy finished fifth overall with a time of 46.11.
In the 200-yard backstroke, two Bombers rounded out the A final to earn all-state honors. Sophomore
Ben Kennedy placed seventh with a time of 1:53.91, while senior
Connor White took eighth with a time of 1:54.04. Both times rank in the top-five in Bomber history.
Sophomore
James Bowe highlighted the 200-yard breaststroke for the men, as he placed second overall with a time of 2:06.54. Bowe's time, which hit an NCAA B cut, ranks second all-time in program history. Sophomore
Addison Hebert paced the Bombers in the 1,650-yard freestyle, taking 12th with a time of 16:58.16. Teammate
Clement Towner finished right behind him, taking 13th with a time of 17:05.83.
Ithaca closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Hebert,
John Carr, A. Zelehowsky and Knight finished in 3:02.86, meeting NCAA B qualifying standards. The group's time also set a new Ithaca record, breaking the old mark of 3:04.34 set in 2013.
The Bombers have finished in the top three in the team standings of the UNYSCSA meet for seven-straight years, with two association championships during that span.
