ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College wrestling team moved up one spot to 12th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III rankings and two wrestlers hold spots at or near the top of their respective weight classes.
Alex Gomez is first at 133 pounds and
Kristopher Schimek is second at 165.
Gomez is 17-2 on the season following his major-decision victory in Saturday's dual against Wabash. He was previously ranked first during the month of November, and has regained his top spot in the national poll. Schimek moved up to second in the 165-pound weight class, his highest ranking of the season. He is 21-2 on the season with a perfect 9-0 record in dual meets. He has seven wins by major decision along with two tech falls and two pins. On Saturday against Wabash, Schimek defeated the eighth-ranked wrestler in that weight class by an 8-4 decision.
The Bombers hold a 7-3 dual-meet record this season and two of the three losses are on tiebreak criteria. All three losses are against teams currently in the top-10 of the NWCA poll. Ithaca returns to Ben Light Gymnasium this weekend for a pair of duals. The Bombers will face Nassau Community College at 7 p.m. Friday and Delaware Valley on Saturday at noon.
