Nationally-Ranked Teams, Wrestlers Will Take Mat At Glazer Arena Saturday

ITHACA, N.Y. – Nationally-ranked teams and wrestlers will compete Saturday as Ithaca College hosts two dual matches at Glazer Arena inside of the Athletics & Events Center. The Bombers, currently ranked 13th by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, will host fifth-ranked Wabash at 2 p.m. Preceding that, 10th-ranked Cortland will take on Wabash beginning at noon.

The three teams feature a total of 11 wrestlers who appeared in the latest individual weight-class rankings by the NWCA. For Ithaca, Alex Gomez is ranked second and carries a 16-2 overall record into this weekend's action. Dominick Giacolone is ranked third at 141 pounds, but will not wrestle due to injury. Giacolone is 12-3 overall this season. Kristopher Schimek has moved up to third overall at 165 pounds and has a 20-2 overall record including an 8-0 mark in dual meets.

In Ithaca's dual-match against Wabash, Schimek will likely take on Wabash's Josh Sampson, ranked eighth by the NWCA with a 23-3 overall record. In addition to Sampson, three other Wabash wrestlers are ranked. Reece Lefever is third at 157, Conner Lefever is fifth at 174 and Riley Lefever is third at 184. The brothers have combined for 72 wins on the season with just two losses. Reece is 24-1, Conner is 24-1 and Riley is 24-0.

Cortland has four wrestlers in the latest national rankings, wth Bobby Dierna standing first at 149 pounds, Lou Puca ranking seventh at 174, Joe Giaramita fourth at 197 and Lance Moore ranking ninth at heavyweight. Dierna is 15-3 on the season, while Puca is 24-7. Giaramita leads the team in wins with a 25-5 overall mark and Moore is 20-3 overall.
