No. 7 Ithaca Wrestling Defeats RIT 26-9

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College wrestling team, ranked seventh in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, maintained its perfect dual-match record with a 26-9 victory at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday. Ithaca improved to 3-0 in duals this season, while RIT is 1-1.

Eight of the ten bouts were won by decision, with Ithaca gaining bonus points by a technical fall from Kristopher Schimek at 165 and a forfeit victory by Matt Booth at 197. Ithaca claimed victories in five of the other eight weight classes.

Henry Beaman started the dual with a 5-4 decision victory at 125 pounds, and Nick Wahba followed with a 9-6 decision for the Bombers at 133. Dominick Giacolone continued Ithaca's strong start with a 6-2 win at 141 pounds to give the Bombers a 9-0 lead in the dual match.

RIT's Brad Mayville scored a 2-1 decision at 149 to get the Tigers on the board, but Kevin Collins answered for Ithaca with a 9-4 win at 157. Schimek then won his bout by tech fall, a 21-4 victory at 6:41 to extend the Ithaca dual-match lead to 17-3.

After two wins by RIT wrestlers, Booth's forfeit victory, and a 7-3 decision win for Shane Bartrum in the heavyweight bout wrapped up the action.

Ithaca will contest its first home dual of the season Saturday at 4 p.m. at Ben Light Gymnasium against Oswego.
