Goldstein Named Honorable Mention All-America by AVCA

AVCA Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fresh off the conclusion of the NCAA Regional Rounds this past weekend, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its annual All-American selections on Tuesday afternoon. One Ithaca College player appeared in the release, as junior outside hitter Joelle Goldstein was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the organization. It is the second consecutive year that Goldstein has earned Honorable Mention selection from the AVCA.

Goldstein capped a fantastic 2016 season this past weekend, as the Bombers traveled to Brockport, N.Y., for NCAA Regional play. The third-year outside hitter posted one of her best matches of the season on Friday, helping Ithaca outlast NESCAC Champion Middlebury in a five-set come-from-behind thriller. She marked a season-high 20 kills, which included the game-winner as IC battled back from a 14-11 deficit in the fifth-set to win 16-14.

Unfortunately, the Bombers' run came to an end the following evening when they were stymied by regional-host Brockport in three sets. Goldstein marked six kills, six digs, and a service ace in the defeat, which ended Ithaca's season in the Round of 32 for the second straight year.

Goldstein concludes the year with team highs of 341 kills and 48 service aces, while she finished second on the squad with 326 digs. She also added 38.0 total blocks on seven solos and 31 block assists.

Tuesday's announcement marked yet another accolade for the third-year hitter. In addition to Honorable Mention All-America, she was also named AVCA New York All-Region, Empire 8 All-Conference First Team, Empire 8 Player of the Year, and a CoSIDA Scholar All-District.

Goldstein can add to her ever-growing list of achievements in the coming weeks, as she is eligible for ECAC All-Star as well as CoSIDA Scholar All-America honors.
