Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The 11
th-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team (8-3) posted its second shutout in program history defeating visiting Houghton (0-9) 19-0 Saturday afternoon at Higgins Stadium. Ithaca's first shutout came in the program's second season with an 18-0 victory against Alfred on May 7, 1968.
Ithaca powered to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and added five in the second for a 15-0 advantage at intermission. The Bombers did not score in the third, but tallied four in the fourth for their second-highest goal total of the season.
Ten Bombers recorded goals in the victory. Freshman
Sean Ferrito led the game with a season-best five points on four goals and an assist. Senior
Pat Slawta netted a hat trick, while classmate
Brandon Henne and freshmen
John Januszkiewicz,
Alex Sullivan and
Grant Osadchey each tallied twice. Sophomore
Michael Walker and freshmen
Justin Bird,
Forrest Rall and
Harry Schoenhaut accounted for the other four scores.
Joining Ferrito with five points, senior
Joe Perkins posted a career-best performance of five assists. Junior
James Manilla dished out three and Januszkiewicz, Sullivan, Rall, Osadchey, senior
Ryan Burns and freshman
Austin Smith each had one.
Five players won faceoffs for Ithaca. Junior
Matt Greenblatt had six victories, Henne and Osadchey five apiece, Rall three and junior
Steve Danylyshyn went 1-for-1. Rall had a season- and game-best 10 ground balls. Henne chipped in seven and Greenblatt and Osadchey six.
Defensively, freshman
Cody Swing forced a season- and game-best six turnovers. Sophomore
Scott Sidnam earned the win in goal. Freshmen
Jack Deragon and
Justin Isaacs also saw time. The goalies were not forced to make a save in the shutout.
Ithaca outshot Houghton 56-4, held a 65-11 gap in ground balls and won 20 of 23 faceoffs. Two of Houghton's faceoff victories were results of Ithaca violations. The Highlanders had 25 turnovers to Ithaca's 14.
The Bombers return to Higgins Stadium on Wednesday, April 9 hosting Utica in Empire 8 action at 4 p.m.
