No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Perfect in Empire 8 Play for Third Straight Season

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The 16th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (11-5, 7-0 Empire 8) shut out visiting Utica (9-5, 3-4 Empire 8) 15-0 Thursday afternoon in its regular-season finale. It is the third straight season that the Bombers have played to a flawless 7-0 record in Empire 8 action.
 
Ithaca jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of play and held a 10-0 gap at intermission. Five different Bombers accounted for the five second-half scores as Ithaca recorded its first shutout since a 20-0 victory over Alfred in 2012.
 
The Bombers outshot Utica 29-12, including an 18-5 edge in the first half. It edged the Pioneers 25-20 in ground balls and 10-7 in draws.
 
Sophomores Riley Marion and Ally Runyon powered the Bombers to victory with career-best performances. Marion posted five goals and two assists and Runyon netted five and added one dish. They both won a team-best three draws.
 
Senior Becky Guzzo served up a career-high tying four assists on senior day. Junior Molly Fischer scored a pair of goals and sophomore Taylor Purvis had a career-best two assists. Junior Ali Woller had one and one, while classmate Natalie Lang and freshman Gaby Berne recorded the Bombers' other two scores.
 
Ithaca had a season-best 15 caused turnovers forcing the Pioneers to fail 10-of-18 clear attempts. Marion had three and senior Jenna Marchinetti and juniors Delaney Gilson and Laura Scalzi chipped in two each. Runyon and Marchinetti collected four ground balls each.
 
Freshman Emily Ross tallied the win in goal making three saves in 25:40 between the pipes. Senior Brittany Romano added five saves in the final 34:20 of the game.
 
Ithaca's five seniors: Guzzo, Marchinetti, Romano, Katie Long and Anya Eckhardt were honored for their contributions to the program prior to the day's contest.

Ithaca returns to the turf on Saturday, May 3 hosting the Empire 8 Championship Tournament semifinals. The Bombers' fourth-seeded opponent is not yet determined.
