Ithaca Women's Golf Team Places Second At Vassar; Individuals At Le Moyne

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's golf team finished second in a field of 12 teams at the Vassar College Invitational, held at Dutchess Golf & Country Club on Saturday and Sunday April 12 and 13. Ithaca totaled 650 over the two rounds, taking second by 17 strokes to Williams, and finishing eight strokes ahead of third-place Cortland. The most recent edition of the Women's Golf Coaches Association Division III College Coaches' Poll ranks Williams fourth and Ithaca eighth.
 
Ithaca scored 334 in the opening round, the first tournament round of the spring season for the Bombers, led by an opening-round 78 from Sharon Li. Lisa Calcasola scored 84 to come in second in the Ithaca lineup on Saturday. Kimberley Wong scored 84, Kelsey Baker posted 87 and Taylor Reeves had a 91.
 
On Sunday, Ithaca improved its team score by 18 shots. Li scored 76 and finished in a tie for first among all individuals. She was tied with Rebecca Studin of Cortland, and Studin won a sudden-death playoff on the second hole to claim the individual medal. Wong scored 78 on Saturday for a total of 163 and an 11th-place finish in the individual standings. Calcasola added a strong 82 to finish tied for 15th and Baker's round of 80 gave her a 167 and a tie for 19th. Reeves made a six-shot improvement to finish with an 85 and a two-day total of 176.
 
All scoring members of the Ithaca lineup placed in the top-20 as 68 total players participated in the tournament.
 
Ithaca's team will compete next weekend at the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst. Ithaca is the defending tournament champion. The first round will be played at Hickory Ridge Golf Club and the second round will be played at The Orchards.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two members of the Ithaca College women's golf team participated as individuals in the Le Moyne College / Mike Bello Invitational over two rounds on April 12 and 13.  Senior Elma Gonzalez and freshman Mary Rooker took part in the event, which was held at Timber Banks in Syracuse.
 
Gonzalez scored 107 in the opening round and 100 in the second round for a total of 208 and a tie for 26th place. Rooker scored 129 and 132 for a 261 and finished 38th.
