No. 17 Ithaca Women's Lacrosse Team Trounces Elmira, 18-4

ITHACA, N.Y. – The 17th-ranked Ithaca College women's lacrosse team (3-4, 2-0 Empire 8) won its second straight Empire 8 contest with an 18-4 victory over Elmira (3-4, 0-1 Empire 8) Tuesday afternoon at Higgins Stadium.

Senior Becky Guzzo fed junior Niki Standera just 13 seconds into action to set the pace of the game. The Bombers went on to lead 7-0 at 17:46. Elmira chipped in a pair of goals as Ithaca added five more for a ten-goal gap, 12-2, at the half.

Ithaca rattled off six goals in the second stint, while Elmira closed out the game with a pair of its own for an 18-4 final, matching the outcome of the 2013 contest.

Sophomore Ally Runyon led the game with four goals, while junior Ali Woller and freshman Morgan Cadwell netted their first collegiate scores en route to hat tricks. Juniors Molly Fischer, Standera and Delaney Gilson contributed two goals each. Sophomore Riley Marion scored once as did freshman Morgan Racicot, the first of her career.

Guzzo dished out a contest-best three assists. Freshman Gaby Berne added two in her collegiate debut. Racicot and sophomore Taylor Purvis had one apiece.

Senior Anya Eckhardt anchored the Bomber defense with game-best numbers of four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Junior Natalie Lang and Gilson scooped up three ground balls each and senior Katie Long forced a pair of turnovers. Marion had three draws. Three others had two each.

Freshman Emily Ross earned the win in goal, making four saves in the first half. Senior Brittany Romano relieved Ross in the second, making one stop for the Blue & Gold.

Ithaca owned a 37-13 advantage in shots and a 24-19 edge in ground balls. Ithaca led draw controls, 16-8. The Bombers improve to 13-1 all-time against the Soaring Eagles.

Ithaca returns to action on Tuesday, April 1 at Union.
