Ithaca Baseball Returns To Action With Rout Of Cazenovia

Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College baseball team returned to action for the first time since its California trip with a 15-0 win over Cazenovia on Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field at Cornell University. The Bombers broke through for five runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to build an insurmountable lead.

Senior all-American pitcher John Prendergast started and picked up the win, his third of the season, with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings. He allowed just five hits and one hit batter. He didn't issue a walk. Prendergast's earned-run average stands at 0.43 in 21 innings of work this season. Benji Parkes and Jimmy Wagner each pitched a scoreless inning in relief, and Wagner had two strikeouts.

The game was scoreless through four and a half innings before Ithaca took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Luke Stark to bring in Cameron Oathout.

The five-run rally in the sixth was highlighted by a two-run single from Vinny Gneo. In the seventh, a two-run double from Tim Henry gave the Bombers an 11-0 lead. Four more runs came across in the eighth inning.

Henry was 3-for-6 to lead the way for Ithaca with three RBIs and a run scores. Colby Gee, Cam Oathout and Luke Stark each scored two runs. Gee, Yanchus and Stark had two hits each as Ithaca totaled 16 hits in the game.

Ithaca is slated to begin a seven-game homestand at Freeman Field beginning Thursday with a single game against Oswego, followed by doubleheaders Friday and Saturday against Houghton.
