Ithaca Women's Basketball Seniors Highlight All-Empire 8 Teams

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's basketball team (21-4, 13-1 Empire 8) placed three seniors on the All-Empire 8 Teams announced Wednesday. Senior Mary Kate Tierney earned first-team recognition, while Kathryn Campbell and Jenn Escobido received second-team nods.

The trio, who pepper Ithaca's all-time career and single-season top-10 lists, have led the Bombers to their sixth consecutive Empire 8 regular-season victory. Ithaca is set to host the Empire 8 Championship Tournament Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-March 1.

Tierney ranks in the top three of six Empire 8 categories including assist-to-turnover ratio, assists per game, double-doubles, rebounds per game, three-point field goals per game and three-point field goal percentage. She leads the team with 13.2 points per game, 8.4 rebounds, 41 steals, 24 blocks, a free throw percentage of 88.9 and a three-point percentage of 42.9. Tierney ranks second all-time at Ithaca with 57 three-pointers in a season and ninth with 103 career treys.

An All-Empire 8 honorable mention as a sophomore and named to the first team as a junior, Campbell ranks second on the team with 11.4 points per contest. She adds 69 assists and 30 steals. Campbell met the 1,000-point threshold this season to rank eighth all-time at Ithaca with 1,199 points. She also sits sixth on the career list with 272 assists and 125 three-pointers.

This marks Escobido's fourth appearance on the All-Empire 8 team in as many years. An honorable mention in 2011 and 2013, she was named to the first team and earned player of the year accolades in 2012. Sitting third on the team with an average of 10.9 points per game, she has posted a pair of double-doubles this season. Escobido ranks second on the squad with 5.4 rebounds per game, 38 steals and a field goal percentage of 51.6. Also hitting the 1,000-point milestone this season, Escobido sits 10th in program history with 1,095 points. Additionally, she ranks seventh with 677 career rebounds.

Senior Elisabeth Wentlent is Ithaca's representative on the 2013-14 Women's Basketball Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 emphasizes that "competing with honor and integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. The honorees on the Sportswoman of the Year Team have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
