Bombers Handle Houghton In 94-54 Victory

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team (4-7) defeated Houghton (3-9) Tuesday night, beating the Highlanders by a score of 94-54 at Ben Light Gymnasium. The Bombers' 94-point output marked their largest offensive total of the season. Ithaca's last game with at least 94 points came last year, when the Bombers defeated Alfred by a score of 101-76 on Jan. 4, 2013.

Sophomore Joey Ross scored a career-high 17 points, going 5-for-5 from three point range and 6-for-7 from the floor. His shooting from beyond the arc marked the best single-game perfromance for three-point field goal percentage since Andrei Oztemel went 7-for-7 on  Feb. 3, 2012. 

Senior Frank Mitchell led the way offensively with 27 points, marking a season high. He also contributed 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Freshman Joe Masino set a career best with 10 points off the bench, while senior Chris Jordan rounded out the scoring with a 12-point night.

Ithaca shot 54.1 percent as a team, going 33-of-61 from the floor including a mark of 60.9 percent from three-point range. The Bombers also shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line, going 14-of-18 from the charity stripe.

Ithaca actually trailed early in the contest, as Houghton held on to a 19-17 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the opening half. A Masino three pointer at 9:40 put the Bombers ahead by a score of 20-19, and Ithaca never looked back. The Bombers closed the first half on a 14-6 run to take a commanding 50-34 lead into the locker room.

Ithaca continued to roll in the second half, outscoring the Highlanders, 44-20, in the second frame to earn the 94-54 lopsided victory.

The Bombers are back in action on Friday, Jan. 10 in a conference game against Alfred. Tipoff at Ben Light Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
