Ithaca Journal Honors Randall with Van Sickle Female Athlete of the Year Award

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca Journal recently named Ithaca College women's cross country and track & field standout Jenn Randall the recipient of the 2013 Kenny Van Sickle Female Athlete of the Year award. In November, as a graduate student, Randall raced to a 12th-place finish to become the 21st all-American in Ithaca College women's cross country history. Earlier in the calendar year, she became a two-time women's track & field all-American as a senior. Randall placed eighth in the indoor mile run and eighth in the outdoor 800-meter run at the NCAA Championships.

This is the ninth year that an Ithaca College female student-athlete has been honored dating back to 1980. Women's soccer player Rachael Palladino was the most recent recipient, claiming the award in 2011.

Randall, who earned the Ithaca College James K. Harris Memorial Award in May, ran cross country in 2009 and 2010 earning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year accolades and spots on the All-Empire 8 and All-NYSCTC teams, before competing in 2013 as a graduate student. Her individual finish at the NCAA Championship was the ninth-highest in program history and helped the Bombers to a 23rd-place finish, their best since placing 20th in 2007.

A mid-distance runner on the indoor and outdoor track & field teams for four years, Randall holds indoor school records in the mile and the 500, 800 and 1,000 runs, as well as the 4x400 relay. Outdoors, she claimed the school record in the 1,500. Randall is a nine-time Empire 8 champion and a six-time NYSCTC champion. Four of Randall's five school records were set in 2013.

Head women's soccer coach Mindy Quigg and head baseball coach George Valesente were honored as Female and Male Coach of the Year.
