Women's Golf Team Posts Record Scores To Take Title at SLU

CANTON, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's golf team won the team championship and Sharon Li was medalist at the St. Lawrence Invitational. The Bombers finished the two-day tournament with a team total of 631, a school record over two rounds. It was the first time that Ithaca has won the season-opening St. Lawrence event, which included a field of eight teams.

The Bombers closed the tournament with a team score of 320 in Sunday's second round under windy conditions at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course, which played to a par-72 at 5,820 yards. Sharon Li posted consecutive rounds of 2-over-par 74 to take the individual honors with a score of 148, four shots better than two players who tied for second.

Ithaca placed all five of its lineup members in the top-15 of the overall standings that featured 44 total players. Additionally, Taylor Reeves competed as an individual and placed 17th with a two-day score of 170.

Kelsey Baker was tied for fourth and posted 80 on Sunday. Lisa Calcasola scored 82 in the second round, the third-best total on the team. Amanda Failla shot 84 and Kimberley Wong scored 87 in Sunday's finale.

In Saturday's opening round, Ithaca posted a school-record single-round team score of 311 to take a 13-stroke lead. The Bombers had three of the five members of the lineup post scores in the 70s.

Sharon Li led the way with an opening-round 74. Kelsey Baker shot 76 and Kimberley Wong posted 77 in her collegiate golf debut. Amanda Failla rounded out the Ithaca scoring lineup with a score of 84. Lisa Calcasola was the fifth member of the Bomber lineup and scored 85. Taylor Reeves, playing as an individual, scored a career-best 81 including a front-nine score of 37.

The Bombers will compete in the Empire 8 Championships next weekend at Blue Heron Hills in Macedon. Ithaca is the three-time defending Empire 8 champion.
