Ithaca Women's Golf Places Second At Cortland Tournament

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's golf team placed second at the Martin/Wallace Invitational hosted by Cortland with a team score of 630 on back-to-back rounds of 315. Ithaca finished only behind Methodist, with a score of 611. The Bombers entered the tournament ranked 11th in the nation via the WGCA Division III coaches poll and fourth in overall scoring in Division III by Golfstat. Methodist was ranked second in the coaches poll and first in scoring, and has won 25 national championships in the last 28 years. A total of 10 teams competed overall.

The tournament's opening round was held at Elm Tree Golf Course and Ithaca scored 315, led by Sharon Li with a score of 76. Kimberley Wong posted 79 in the opening round and the Ithaca scoring lineup was rounded out by Kelsey Baker and Amanda Failla, who each posted 80. Lisa Calcasola scored 82.

In the second round on Sunday at Cortland Country Club, Li once again led Ithaca with a score of 78 for a two-day total of 154. She placed third overall behind two golfers from Methodist. Amanda Failla matched Li's 78 on the second day and totaled 158 for the tournament. Wong also scored 158 for the weekend after a second-round score of 79. Both Failla and Wong finished tied for sixth overall.

Calcasola's 80 on Sunday was the fourth score to count for the Bombers and Calcasola totaled 162 for the tournament to place 12th. Baker shot 84 in the second round and finished with a total of 164, and ranked 14th overall out of 58 individuals.

Taylor Reeves and Taylor MacDonald competed as individuals for Ithaca. Reeves placed 18th overall with scores of 85-87 for 172. MacDonald posted 90-90=180 to place tied for 24th overall.

The Bombers will compete next week at the Williams Fall Classic at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass.
