Greene was a track athlete at IC, and has gone on to become a successful coach and athletic administrator. After a year of high school coaching, Greene became Director of Physical Education and coach of varsity track and cross country, and freshman basketball at Hartwick College. Later, he became head coach of the varsity cagers, and compiled an 82-51 record before going to Florida Southern University in 1956 as varsity basketball coach and director of athletics. He recorded a 325-259 record in 25 seasons, before returning up north to North Adams State in 1972. Greene returned to Hartwick in 1977, as Chairperson of the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. Upon retirement, he ranked 17th nationally in career basketball coaching wins in all divisions.
