The 2004 and 2005 women's rowing teams repeated as national champions and were the most recent team titles in school history. They were also the first back-to-back national championship teams for NCAA Division III Women's Rowing.
In Sacramento, Calif. on May 29, 2004, IC posted the lowest team score with seven a first-place finish by the varsity 8 boat in the grand final and an unprecedented performance by the second varsity 8 boat, as the crew made its way through the repechage race to reach the grand final. At that time, it was just the first occurrence where a second varsity 8 qualified for a grand final.
The 2004 first varsity 8 posted an undefeated regular season for the first time ever. The second varsity 8 was also unbeaten until the NCAA Championship.
The next season the Bombers returned to Sacramento. Ithaca tied Smith with 10 points but won the title with a higher finish in the grand final. The varsity 8 boat placed second in Saturday's grand final; the second varsity 8 boat had placed third in the petite final.
