Steve DeMatties '81 is the Bomber baseball program's record-holder in home runs in a game (three), season (17 in 1981) and career (31). A career .295 hitter with 115 RBI's while playing catcher, third base and designated hitter, he was a four-time selection to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Northeast regional playoffs (including MVP honors in 1978). DeMatties was named to the all-tournament team at the College World Series twice, including 1980 when he helped Ithaca win its first national championship. Upon graduating he held school records for single-and career season total bases and single-season and career total bases. In 1999 he coached the national champion AAU under-13 team. DeMatties was drafted by the New York Mets and rose as high as the AAA level.
