A two-sport athlete, Scott Connolly was a First Team All-American for the football team as a defensive end and was a two-year member of the wrestling program.

In three varsity seasons on the gridiron, Connolly racked up 174 total tackles with 29 tackles for loss and 14 sacks. During IC's 10-3 season in 1994, which ended in the NCAA semifinals, he had 73 tackles, and followed up with 66 tackles and 15 tackles for loss with 10 sacks in his All-American campaign. His 10 sacks rank seventh on the single season list, while the 83 yards lost on sacks is first all-time. Connolly would also be named First Team All-ECAC and was the football program's team MVP.

On the career list, Connolly is tied for third in sack yardage (96), ninth in sacks (14) and 10th in tackles for loss yards (122).
