Bob Marella '59 was an all-American in wrestling in 1959 and compiled a dual meet record of 31-3-3 in four seasons. He was a 4I tourney champion in 1958-59 and finished second in the heavyweight division of the NCAA and AAU tournaments in 1959. In addition to being captain of the wrestling team, Marella was also named the team's Most Valuable Performer in 1959. In track and field, Marella was outstanding in the shotput and discus, hold the Bombers record in shotput until 1966 and in discus until 1967. He had 21 first place finishes in the shotput and 18 in the discus. Marella also played football while at Ithaca and was an offensive center and tackle. He went on to become the owner of the Capital Wrestling Corporation in Washington, D.C., and wrestled under the professional name of "Gorilla Monsoon".
