Ricardo Gomez-Perez was a two-year member of the wrestling program and produced one of the most dominant careers as a grappler on South Hill with a 49-9 overall record. Gomez-Perez was the 2013 national champion at 125 pounds, making him just the 11th individual to earn a title for the wrestling program. He was also named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Year.
After a 20-7 season as a junior where he wrestled at 133 and 125, Gomez-Perez returned for his senior year and went 29-2, with 20 victories coming by way of decision.
As the top seed at the 2013 national championship, Gomez-Perez won his first match by decision, 3-1, and then pinned his next opponent. In the semifinal, he prevailed, 2-1 in three overtimes to reach the title match against an unseeded opponent and secured the national title with a 4-2 decision win.
