Regarded as one of the most aggressive defensive players at linebacker at Ithaca College football history, Daegan Gray received a total of four All-American honors during his time on the gridiron from 1986-1988.
Gray was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American during the 1987 season after registering a team-high 122 tackles. He was then named captain in 1988 and earned All-American recognition from the Associated Press, Pizza Hut and Football News after an 89-tackle season.
He was the anchor on Ithaca's national championship team in 1988 that went 13-1 under Hall of Fame coach Jim Butterfield and defeated Central (Iowa), 39-24, in the Stagg Bowl. During his sophomore season, Gray notched 20 tackles in the national semifinal loss to Salisbury, 44-40. Gray was elevated to the varsity program as a freshman in 1985 for the playoffs, making him just one of a handful of players to compete in two Stagg Bowls at Ithaca College.
