High School: Howes earned four varsity letters in winter track and four varsity letters in spring track under head coach Joseph Karocsh. He was a three-year captain of the squad and helped his team claim State Runner-ups in the 2014 season. Howes was a national qualifier in the 2014-15 winter season and the 2015 spring season. He also earned three varsity letters in cross country.
Personal: Derek, son of Rob Stegman and Cynthia Howes, is an IMC major.
